EPIC Tripp: Let There Be Light – 3.04

Post 3.03 | Rules | Post 3.05

Last update we had baby Lara grow up into a toddler and Belle dealt with missing Francis and his ghost visiting. We also saw Lindsey reach the end of the temple. So let’s see what we have to continue working on.

Generation 3: Let There Be Light

  • Cannot take assignments by mail until reaching level 10 archaeology.
  • When the heir(ess) reaches the top of the archaeology or science career, the light bulb is invented and lights can now be placed. Phones may also be used, as well as telescopes and microscopes;
  • Sims may now use planes to travel to foreign lands;
  • Indoor plumbing has been invented, so dishwashers, toilets and showers may now be placed indoors;
  • Dryers of any quality may now be purchased, and you may now replace the cheap washer with an expensive one.

    Gen 3 Mini Challenge
    Choose one:
  • Discover all potions and inventions during this generation (scientist). +3 points (Not going for this goal)
  • Discover all relics and assemble all totems (archaeologist). +3 points

The ghosts are starting to become quite a pain on the outdoor plumbing. It’s hard when you wake up in with a great need to use the bathroom and they need to repair the toilet to be able to use it. Hopefully when we get indoor plumbing it will get better.

The girls of the house sit down for breakfast. This is a day for studying for Lindsey and Lara. Lara needs to work on her toddler skills, and Lindsey is working on her archeology.

Lara gets a start on her movement with the slide. Getting the movement up is super important so she can go up and down the stairs as she would like. When we build a new house I want the toddler room downstairs.

Lindsey heads upstairs to start uncovering the artifact she brought home. There are so many in her bag and we need to hopefully find and authenticate 5 excellent ones.

Belle starts helping out Lara with her potty skill. This also needs to get to a level 2 where she can do it on her own.

Then Lindsey reaches a huge milestone for her. She has maxed her archeology, which also was needed to finish her archeology degree. Now we just need to finish up the aspiration and we will have unlocked multiple things.

Johnny visits and I am a little mad at him. Why does playful mean you need to destroy you sweet great grandchild’s dollhouse that she was going to use the next day?

After doing all of the work on the artifacts Lindsey needed to have some fun. She turns out to be a pretty decent dancer, but I learned she was dancing some Selvadorada dance. It was cute.

It’s Winterfest time again and the family gathers to sing around the tree, which has started becoming a tradition for this family.

The tree is decorated with a tree skirt and ornaments with garland. No lights, since there is not electricity hooked up here yet. Even little Lara got involved, by watching.

Decorations are put up on the house and the family waits for Father Winter to show up. A grand meal is created, skills are practiced, naps are taken. Basically it’s the best holiday.

When Father Christmas shows up presents are opened and everyone got something that they want, and that is a great thing, since that is not always the case with this family, and everyone feels like it was a great holiday.

Lara spends a lot of time with her grandma Belle, so her parents can focus on their aspirations. Since Belle and Francis didn’t get through handiness and painting ‘Nando and Lindsey are going to need to focus on it.

Lindsey manages to finally uncover and authenticate the final excellent artifact she needed. Now all she needs to do is give a good archeology talk and write a skill book.

Belle doesn’t have many day left, but she gets energized and decides to work out on her own. I’m a little worried about it, but she does great.

I know we haven’t shown it much, but ‘Nando spends a good amount of time with his daughter as well. He doesn’t read as good of a story and mom or grandma, but he’s a good substitute.

Lindsey is able to give a good archeology talk and all she is down too needing to write a skill book. She talks with her grandpa, Johnny for a bit outside.

Lindsey buys a journal and working on her writing skill until she gets to at least level 2. She just has to write a good skill book, and hopefully, level 2 will be enough. So, she heads to the library, where the forbidden devices live. Success!

Lindsey has officially completed the requirements for the archeology skill. She has maxed her archeology skill, completed the archeology aspiration, maxed the Selvadoradian Culture skill, and has reached the bottom of the temple. Not all of those were required, but we did them anyway. That means:

  • When the heir(ess) reaches the top of the archaeology or science career, the light bulb is invented and lights can now be placed. Phones may also be used, as well as telescopes and microscopes;
  • Sims may now use planes to travel to foreign lands;
  • Indoor plumbing has been invented, so dishwashers, toilets and showers may now be placed indoors;
  • Dryers of any quality may now be purchased, and you may now replace the cheap washer with an expensive one.

On the way home we get a notice to says Ferdinando has also gotten a promotion. This has been a great day for the family.

With the unlocking of indoor plumbing and lighting it was time for the house to get a makeover. We cannot move away from the wood walls and stone floors yet, but everything looks much brighter. We will leave one tub and toilet outside so we don’t run into people fighting over the bathroom.

Belle is getting so close to the end of life and she heads out to spend time with the gnomes. Not sure what caused Belle and Francis to commune with the gnomes so much, but maybe it’s because they tended the garden so well.

A moment of cuteness as Lara plays with her toys to build up her imagination. She is almost through all her skills, just needing an imagination skill and a thinking skill.

Then it happened. I was having Belle work on upgrading the new washer/dryer and the game called attention to her. I’m not ready!

Death initially spawned next to Lindsey, who was busy trying to to authenticate a new artifact. I decided to have Lindsey try and beg for Belle. We are ready to be without her!

Sadly, and for the first time, begging with Death failed. Lindsey has a high relationship with her mom, so I’m not sure what caused it to fail, but maybe Belle was just ready to be with her parents and Francis again. She is placed next to Francis.

You might see a glimpse of Kiana between the trees, there to welcome her daughter to this side of life. I will miss Belle, her beautiful violin playing, and her occasionally hot headed outbursts. I think that is a good time to end this update. I will hopefully have more soon.

EPIC Tripp: Let There Be Light – 3.03

Post 3.02 | Rules | Post 3.04

Welcome back to the Tripp family EPIC. Last time we spent time with Lindsey finding her husband and starting a family and ended with the birth of baby Lara. We also lost Francis, and the gnomes gave tribute to him. A quick review of our goals and we are off.

Generation 3: Let There Be Light

  • Cannot take assignments by mail until reaching level 10 archaeology.
  • Spouse may work in the field the heir did not choose, or any other previously unlocked profession.
  • When the heir(ess) reaches the top of the archaeology or science career, the light bulb is invented and lights can now be placed. Phones may also be used, as well as telescopes and microscopes;
  • Sims may now use planes to travel to foreign lands;
  • Indoor plumbing has been invented, so dishwashers, toilets and showers may now be placed indoors;

After some discussion with the boolprop group it has been decided that completely the archeology career involves not only maxing the archeology skill, but also completely the aspiration. So Lindsey has her work cut out for her.

When we first come into the house we see the Ferdinando is still mourning the loss of Francis. He also happens to be showing the loss of a pet, but he knows no pets.

As soon as I unpause the game Ferdinando decides to head out and mourn the first of his kind, EPIC spouse, and mourn the loss of Johnny. I’m starting to think Ferdinando is a sensitive sim.

Belle is getting older and spending time with sims she knows now before it’s too late. She is also working on maxing additional skills. Although really I should be having her painting since she’s at level 8, while ‘Nando is only starting.

‘Nando is a helpful sim while when he’s not crying over past family members of his new bride. He even gets started on some laundry right before Lindsey heads back to Selvadorada.

Lindsey’s newest task in her aspiration is to set up 3 excavation sites. So after picking out a house she heads to the market and scopes out the area. Luckily there is a dig pile right there and she can buy some supplies when the vendors show.

Since it’s late, I decided before I send Lindsey into the jungle that we would have a good night sleep in our vacation home, and a good meal and then she can head out the next morning. Wouldn’t you know it though, the next morning she finds a dig site right outside the house.

Just one more excavation site to go and then it’s all about gathering artifacts to bring home with us. She even leveled up again.

On our way to the jungle Lindsey searches one more time and we find our last needed dig pile to search for artifacts. Now we just need to gather as many artifacts as we can to hopefully get some excellent ones to authenticate.

After uncovering a couple of artifacts we head into the jungle. The first challenge sees us dealing with bees, which doesn’t turn out to be hard.

The next doorway we lose our machete, and no one had been selling machetes. So we will check out this place and then head back and just work our excavation sites….or so I thought until…..

We received a blessing, which gave us a new machete and turned Lindsey into a skeleton. How exciting! Let’s continue on through the jungle then! We find some rocks to dig up…..

We then reach the temple, but get snug by a scorpion and get poisoned. Not knowing for sure if the skeleton form will protect us or not we decide to trade in the skeleton dust we have for an antidote just in case.

Back at the temple, after gathering some more artifacts, Lindsey blazes through temple defenses…

Not wanting to leave the temple to find a bathroom I basically work Lindsey until she “has an accident” and then we use the waterfall in a bottle to get our hygiene back up. Works wonders and we are off again….

We reach the bottom in no time and gather our treasure. The first time I’ve been able to do this! So much fun!

As Lindsey gathers the last of the treasure we get notice that it’s almost Lara’s birthday, and she only has 4 hours left on this trip. It’s perfect time and so Lindsey heads home.

When Lindsey gets home her first stop is up to her daughter. She missed her little girl while visiting the jungle. What she does, though, is for the benefit of her daughters future.

Then it’s time for little Lara to grow up, and boy is she a cutie! Got her daddy’s hair and that makes me very happy!

Grandma Belle heads upstairs to start getting to know her granddaughter a little bit better. She seems proud of her daughter for having such a lovely daughter herself, or maybe she’s just nostalgic.

While grandma Belle takes care of little Lara, Lindsey heads downstairs to share her trip with her husband. She was in need of some social time, the jungle is a lonely place.

Belle begins to try and teach Lara to talk, but Lara has enough of that before too long so Belle reads her a story instead. Grandma’s tell the BEST stories.

Lara was getting super sleepy and it was getting late so it was time to finish up the story while going to bed. I’m going to miss having Belle around to help with Lara.

We give Lara a little bit of a make-over and she is just too cute. She also rolled the Angelic trait, which I forgot to mention before.

Francis decides to visit, and is apparently mad, and takes it out on the dollhouse first, thanks Francis, and then on the plumbing. You know, these aren’t actually hooked up to anything so you ghosts are magic to make them break!

All of that destruction seemed to have calmed Francis however, and peeking around outside we see someone else is watching over us tonight.

Kiana: All is calm here, all is right.

Francis comes to pay his respects to the gnomes. Belle finds him and she is delighted to see him. She asks him to spend the night with her, one last time. The bed feels too empty without him. He obliges, although Belle knows it can’t always be like this.

The family is feeling the bitter-sweetness of having the ghosts of their loved ones around to visit, but also missing them during the day. On that note we are going to go call this visit with the family and join them again soon.

As Ferdinando and Lindsey has planned Ferdinando showed up late one night, Belle and Francis were already in bed, but Lindsey invited him in and up to bed for the night.

They didn’t think of anything else but being with each other that night, and they would introduce him the next day.

Johnny spied them heading up though, but he just danced the night away, after breaking the plumbing.

As dawn started to rise, he went out to do some tree trimming.

It was then time to start to get to know his grandson-in-law to be. So he and Ferdinando talked. In Ferdinando was surprised to see a ghost, he didn’t show it.

Maybe he was nervous and just wanted to make a good impression on his soon to be in-laws, or maybe he just really likes to clean, but Ferdinano did the laundry.

A family meal was had, which Belle got up from to start playing some music.

And why might she have started playing the piano you might ask?

Belle: She is going to be married.

Yes, it was time for a wedding. Do you like your son-in-law?

Belle: He is good for Lindsey. I think he will do just fine.

Francis: *sniff sniff* My baby girl…..

Lindsey is then feeling sick, and knows what that probably means. When he arrived, their tryst meant the challenge continues. She ate some strawberries as her mom told her, who of course, learned from our sage, Kiana.

Kiana: I sense a new baby, a little girl, is on it’s way.

Well, again, we can’t be sure it’s going to be…..you know what, nevermind, yep, that’s exactly what’s happening.

Kiana: *nods* Yes, then place needs my help again. They should have a clean house to bring a baby into.

The next day goes by very normally and uneventfully, expect the reminder that Francis time is almost up. Still, a meal was had together.

Belle mentored Lindsey on the piano, and actually completed her aspiration. Her new one is to be fabulously wealthy.

Frances and Lindsey talk while Lindsey tries her hand at painting.

We also give Ferdinando a bit of a make-over. His last name is Nunez, and he is an Insider, Creative, Child of the Islands, and gets the aspiration Painter Extraordinaire, and a career in painting.

The next day is going to be HarvestFest, and Francis last holiday more than likely, so Belle and Francis spend some quality time together that night, reminiscing and strengthening their love.

Ferdinando starts working on paintings. He needs to max this skill, and thus this career so we can change these walls!

With HarvestFest comes the new gnomes. I check on if they are fixed or not, I bring the old gnomes out of inventory. They are, luckily, all still appeased from before, and Francis heads to appease one of the new bunny types.

Then the gnomes all disappear, and when I search for them, I find them gathered around Francis’ bed. Is this a gnome send off?

Francis tasks Lindsey to make the grand meal for the day, and while sitting at the table giving tips and pointers, the gnomes appear again, gathering around the place that Francis spent the most time, his kitchen.

It causes Lindsey to have all kind of fun getting to the stove, but she weaves through them and gets there. The family, and the gnomes, celebrate HarvestFest.

Lindsey talks to her dad and about the baby, and he gets to feel the new little one kick before heading out to tend to the garden.

It’s in the garden that we hear it’s the end. Lindsey and Belle are both sleeping, but Ferdinando comes down to mourn the man he just met, but who raised his beautiful, confident wife and who will never meet his grand-baby while alive.

The gnomes, apparently sensing it was done, gather around Belle, seeming to dim their halos just a bit.

Belle heads down to her husbands grave, and strengthens his connection to this world, hoping she will see him again soon. She also spend a little time talking with her mom and dad too.

Johnny arrives just as some of the worst of the grief hits Belle, and offers her his unwavering support and love.

The night passes quietly, HarvestFest was a success, but also very sad. The family will miss Francis, and while he didn’t manage to max his career, or max out any skills, or complete his aspiration, he will still be missed, but the family that loved him.

Where life ends though, there is always a beginning as well. Lindsey starts putting away laundry the next day and feels the first pangs of a contraction.

She heads upstairs, where we have moved the bassinet into Ferdinando and Lindsey’s room, and after a little while, baby cries are heard. It’s a new little girl, thank you Kiana, Lara.

Belle, out working in the garden, hears the cries and knows everything for her family will be ok. They will continue to move forward.

Though she normally would play her feelings, the idea of picking up the violin, or playing the piano is too much for Belle, so instead she paints.

It’s a lonely painting, but the family won’t be able to mourn forever. With little Lara here, Lindsey will have to make time to head back to Selvadorada soon if she hopes to finish her goals, and she will need Ferdinando and Belle to help with Lara.

EPIC Tripp: Let There Be Light – 3.01

Wrap 2 | Rules | Post 3.02

Welcome back to our EPIC and to the start of Gen 3. If you have been following along up until now, then welcome back. If you have just found us then welcome, but you may wish to check out the previous 2 generations, the Garden of Eden and the Sound of Music generations, to catch up on what has happened so far. Let’s look at our goals for this generation.

Generation 3: Let There Be Light

  • Your heir(ess) has a choice between the Science career and becoming a self-employed Archaeologist.
  • Only the archaeologist is allowed to travel to Selvadorada and only for work-related purposes, until reaching level 10 archaeology.
  • Cannot take assignments by mail until reaching level 10 archaeology.
  • Spouse may work in the field the heir did not choose, or any other previously unlocked profession.
  • When the heir(ess) reaches the top of the archaeology or science career, the light bulb is invented and lights can now be placed. Phones may also be used, as well as telescopes and microscopes;
  • Sims may now use planes to travel to foreign lands;
  • Indoor plumbing has been invented, so dishwashers, toilets and showers may now be placed indoors;
  • Dryers of any quality may now be purchased, and you may now replace the cheap washer with an expensive one.

  • Discover all relics and assemble all totems (archaeologist). +3 points

As was mentioned previously, Lindsey is going to become a part of the of the archeology “career.” So once she has had her birthday off she goes to Selvadorada to get started. She initially arrives and having picking a place to stay she stops by the bar, that also has the markets.

In a dream she had on the way, she lost her machete right away and became poisoned and died in the middle of the temple while trying to solve the puzzles.

(Just as a side note, she didn’t die in the picture above, but I did have to restart her jungle adventure.)

After chatting up some locals she decides to head to the jungle with the provisions given to her at the start. (I know, bad idea, but I didn’t know.) She cleared the first path, and unlike in her dream, didn’t lose it right away.

She was able to dig up some dirt piles, but being nervous about what the dream warned her about, she did not continue very far into the jungle.

Instead, she headed back to the markets so she could stock up on additional supplies that should make it easier and safer for her to get through the jungle.

She was meeting many locals and instead of traveling back out into the jungle that day, decided to try and uncover the things she had located during the trip she took.

Some marvelous finds had been had and she went to bed that night excited to get to the temple the next day. Which she did, in fact, do. After finding a pool, she traversed a slightly different path, and even found a skeleton “caretaker”.

From back at home we received some very exciting news from Belle. This means, we can have radios now! YAY

That evening Lindsey spent time talking with the locals, and really hit it off with this gentleman.

They even did some star gazing together. He is another blonde, and would bring in some interesting new genetics, but I don’t know yet.

After a while, Lindsey and our “mystery gentleman” just hung out with others at the bar that evening. There were many people around Selvadorada, and many of them young adults.

It was time for Lindsey to head home, however, but she uncovered many things to work on her archeology skill with back at home. Now that they had radios, Francis was dancing and Belle was able to make progress on her aspiration.

Lindsey diligently works on uncovering the different artifacts she brought home with her. I believe she is already up to a level 4 or 5 in archeology already, having studied the books when she was younger.

Kiana pays us a visit, and decides to try her hand at the piano. She heard her daughter practicing for years, but she cannot make it give her the same sounds.

Kiana: She has a gift, my daughter.

Yes, she does, but she also practiced very hard.

After uncovering all the different artifacts she brought home Lindsey decides to give word working a shot. We still haven’t maxed painting or handiness in order to change the walls, or get a thermostat.

Belle continues to work on painting, and while she is at a level 8, I believe I’m going to have Lindsey’s husband join the paining career, so they should be able to get it done this generation.

It was time for Lindsey to head back to Selvadorada. She continued to learn about the culture, having maxed that out this trip, and while at the market, met additional locals.

This is Ferdinando and all traveling through the jungle was lost once Lindsey met him. The spent the entire day together. Cloud watching, star gazing, chatting and getting to know each other.

Knowing her trip was short, Lindsey went for it…..

Both of them had to head back to their homes for the night, but Lindsey felt like she floated back to her rental. Hoping she would see him tomorrow, and sure enough, at the bar the next morning, although he wasn’t in his hat, was Ferdinando.

She invited him back to her place where they had a swim, and a little more fun throughout the day.

Lindsey had to leave the next day, it was a short trip, and while no archeology was done, although she did dig up some new fossils, she was hoping to leave with more than she came. So after spending the morning together……

It is a yes!

Plans were quickly made to have Ferdinando come out to Oasis Springs, where he could meet her parents, and they could get married and have a life together. She couldn’t wait to get home, where things were very similar to how she left them.

But she was rushing home for a reason. It was a very important day and Lindsey didn’t want to miss out.

Happy Birthday my lovely Belle. I cannot believe you are an elder now, and Francis, who was much older than Belle initially, is nearing the end of his life. Will he live long enough to meet his son in law? Will Lindsey get back to Selvadorada to finish up her archeology tasks?

These are questions that I think will need to happen next update. So I hope you enjoyed this update, and will join us again soon as we work towards having light blubs, and indoor plumbing….I’m so excited!

EPIC Tripp: Sound of Music Wrap

Post 2.10 | Rules | Post 3.01

As hard as it is to believe, Lindsey Tripp, our generation 3 sim is ready to take on the next leg of this challenge. So with that it’s time to take a quick look back over this last generation and see how we are doing.

We’ll take a quick look at the rules for this generation, and take a sneak peak at what’s coming up for Lindsey. I also forgot to take a look at the points for the last generation so we will do that too.

Belle was in the music career and Francis took the culinary career, which was also unlocked this generation. I believe I managed to keep the rules this time, although we did have a bit of a snafu early on with rooms being “separated” that I shouldn’t have been a couple of times.

Generation 2: Sound of Music

  • Heir must choose between Music or Painting careers.
  • Spouse may work in any of the listed jobs the heir did not choose, or culinary or gardening.
  • Starting with the sims of generation 2, if the heir or spouse masters the painting skill, walls and floors may be any material. If this generation doesn’t complete this, it will be up to future generations to gain the necessary skill.
  • Starting with the sims of generation 2, if the heir or spouse masters the handiness skill, thermostats are unlocked. If this generation doesn’t complete this, it will be up to future generations to gain the necessary skill.
  • Once heir reaches the top of the music or painting careers, radios are able to be purchased and used.

    Gen 2 Mini Challenge:
  • Make at least 1,000 simoleans by busking. +3 points

The first two bullet points were easy and already explained. We are still working on painting and handiness, and Belle is still working on finishing up the final promotion in music. That should come quickly at the beginning of the next generation. We did manage to meet the mini challenge, however.

Now I gave myself a whole set of mini challenges for this challenge as well and I haven’t taken a look at them to see if I’ve kept to them or not, so I think I should take a quick look there as well.

Selected Mini-Challenges

Roll the Dice: Give yourself 5 extra points if you randomize traits of all children for the whole challenge (minus the required traits following the crossroads). You can still do this mini-challenge if you choose to have a passed-down family trait, as long as you roll for all the rest of the traits besides the family trait.

“Every family has one…”: This mini challenge is in addition to the Roll the Dice challenge. Give yourself 1 point for each sim who rolls the Erratic trait.

“No well-behaved woman ever made history.”: Can you make your challenge into a Matriarchy? Must use strawberries to try and give birth to girls so each generation can have an heiress. The use of mods to tamper with gender does not count! 10 points

Gnome Mania: Give yourself one point for each gnome on the family lot by the end of the challenge. Additionally, give yourself one point for each TYPE of gnome the family has collected. These are the gnomes you will receive during HarvestFest so do not cancel the holiday!

Hoarder: An extra 10 points for each completed collection the family has ON the lot at the end of the challenge.

Doing it the Hard Way: Give yourself 10 points if you did not use any aspiration rewards during the challenge.

DIY: No handyman may be called at any time during the challenge; all broken appliances, plumbing, and electronics must be fixed by someone in the household. No maid or butler may be hired. Nannies are not allowed, but daycare is – you have to work, after all. 5 points

Love the One You’re With: 5 points if all spouses are found within the town and not created for the heir(ess) in CAS.

I did randomize all of Lindsey’s traits, so that is still going strong. So far no one has rolled an erratic trait but I’m sure it’s coming at some point. So far so good on the matriarchy. I have plenty of strawberries, so hopefully we can keep to that. I am still collecting gnomes, and working on other collections as well. So far no aspiration rewards are being used (although that is very hard sometimes.) I have managed to do everything DIY and both Johnny and Francis were just from the neighborhood, not created by me, so it looks like we are on our way to meeting these for another generation.

Let’s take a quick peak at what the next generations goals and requirements will be.

  • When the heir(ess) reaches the top of the archaeology or science career, the light bulb is invented and lights can now be placed. Phones may also be used, as well as telescopes and microscopes;
  • Sims may now use planes to travel to foreign lands;
  • Indoor plumbing has been invented, so dishwashers, toilets and showers may now be placed indoors;
  • Dryers of any quality may now be purchased, and you may now replace the cheap washer with an expensive one.

    Gen 3 Mini Challenge
    Choose one:
  • Discover all potions and inventions during this generation (scientist). +3 points
  • Discover all relics and assemble all totems (archaeologist). +3 points

As discussed in prior entries, even though I realized later science would have also made sense for Lindsey, she is going to be an archeologist. I’m not sure what her spouse will do, likely painting so we can get the painting skill maxed finally. This generation we get electricity and indoor plumbing, which is very exciting!

POINTS (SO FAR):

The thing I forgot last time was to look at points. Whoops! So here we go:

-5 for each restriction broken (-10 total) – I totally did this twice with the rooms, but I don’t believe I have broken others.

1 point per $100,000 the family has accrued (+1 total) – the family has only just reach $100,000. I expect this to go up a fair amount this next generation.

1 point per each skill maxed per generation (by any family member) (+6 total)
Gen 1:
– Kiana: 3 (Cooking, flower arranging, and gardening)
– Johnny: 0
Gen 2:
– Belle: 3 (Cooking, piano, and violin)
– Francis: 0
Gen 3:
– Lindsey: 0

Mini Challenges:
– Gen 1: No fridge +3 Points
– Gen 2: $1000 busking +3 Points

Now the other mini challenges will be counted at the end, as will the ending bonus. So not a super high score so far, need to work on maxing some more skills, but for only 2 generations in I feel like I’m doing ok. See you for the next generation.

It feels like forever since I have posted here, even though it hasn’t been that long. I realized pretty quickly that I am basically at the end of Gen 2, so we are going to wrap up Gen 2 this post and then we will do the wrap-up and see how Gen 3 starts. We are still working on our final few goals for this generation.

So I had an incident in the middle of playing this round that caused me to have to replay the beginning part of this round. Not everything happened EXACTLY the same as the pictures, but the general “beats” happened the same. So let’s get started.

We start with some mother-daughter bonding over a game of chess. Belle was clearly just home from work as that is her performance dress.

Belle is still working on getting the money for busking, so she heads down to the busking set up at the part and gets herself another $220 simoleons. That means she needs just under $300 to complete this goal.

Belle: Really? More playing in public???

Yes Belle, but you play so beautifully and you love to play.

Belle: Yes, but you know I’m not a “sim” sim.

Belle does get tense from “stranger danger” every time she is out doing this, but one more trip should do it.

Back safe in her home she is working on maxing that piano skill. She is so very close to reaching the top of the career I need to get this done.

Francis helps Lindsey with her homework. I sort of drop the ball a little later on his mentoring, so he isn’t likely to finish an aspiration.

Francis: Especially since Lindsey wants to be an archeologist. There is no job for her to max with that.

That is true, but still, I feel bad. I really thought you’d make it through this one.

Lindsey is getting a headstart on her “career” while still in high school as well by purchasing some archeology books and reading up on archeology. I think she is going to be very successful.

She also sits and has a nice conversation with her grandmother, Kiana, who is out frequently and while she and Johnny tend to break the plumbing items outside, they are very helpful in other ways.

Kiana: We do it to help.

Do what to help, break stuff? How does that help?

Kiana: It forces the family to learn handiness. They need temperature control at some point.

Francis continues to work on his aspiration by helping Lindsey with her school project. Lindsey is close to getting an A in high school.

Belle did it! She has maxed 2 skills, violin and piano. All she needs is the next promotion.

The firepit is still a very “fun” thing for the family to do. It gets decently hot here so it is surprising to me how much time they spend around it, but as long as they enjoy it and don’t overheat.

Francis tries his hand at gaining more painting skills. He isn’t doing the best at it, perhaps we need to leave this to Belle.

I believe this is New Year’s dinner and all the family makes resolutions that they each reach, but that do not count due to something with an update that is being worked on.

For the first time in a while, we have a visit from Johnny. Who does very helpful things like replacing the wash water. I believe he also went and grabbed a load of laundry as well.

The ghosts “helped” during the night by breaking both the toilet and the bathtub, which makes more a tense morning for the family.

THANKS ghosts!

Kiana: They are learning fast.

It was time for Belle to reach the last money she needed from busking. Instead of going to the park the whole family headed to the nearby bar. There was food, bathrooms, and fun for all while Belle played her heart out.

However, with the final tip from customer number 15 we reached our goals. $1016 has been made by busking!

  • Make at least 1,000 simoleans by busking. +3 points

Then a moment I knew was coming but still wasn’t ready to have happened, and almost had forgotten was happening, Francis came home from work and grew up to an Elder. How is it possible already???

He was always older than Belle, but still. The family sits down to a nice dinner to celebrate, although Francis will mope about his forgotten birthday (cause I didn’t get a cake done.)

It’s hard to imagine, but it was also time for the next generation to take over. Lindsey’s birthday is at hand. Belle is a sliver away from her final promotion, where we get radios. I’m so excited to have radios finally, and maybe Belle can finish her aspiration.

Our generation 3 heir is now a young adult and we are ready to take on her challenges. Belle has managed to max out 3 skills so far, cooking, piano, and violin. She is very close to getting that final promotion she needs to unlock the radios.

Lindsey gets compassion and responsible traits from her choices as a child. She was 2 badges away from maxing her scouting aptitude, one day I will complete that. She is going to be going into archeology. Francis, unfortunately, is not going to reach his first aspiration, so we may change it. I forgot one of the final things is for a child to max a career.

I will cover a few more things in the wrap for this generation and we are ready to start Gen 3, the Let There Be Light generation.

Generation 2: Sound of Music

+3 points

We start this update with some good news for Francis. He is slowly building his way up through the culinary career and got to pick his path. He, of course, chose to continue in the food vein of culinary. He is finally at level 6.

Later that night Kiana is out haunting again, although it’s hard to call her helpfulness truly haunting. My how far ghost have come from their scaring ways in TS2. Kiana not only hangs up the laundry, but takes out the trash as well.

As hard as it is for me to believe this, the next day is Lindsey’s birthday to being a teenager. She has been very successful as a child. She gets Mentally Gifted from completing the Whiz Kid aspiration and she was only a couple creative points away from completing the second one.

On top of the Mentally Gifted she also rolls Child of the Islands and gets the Archeology Scholar, which gives her the Quick Learner trait as well. Lindsey went through a Clingy and Mean Streak phase as a kid, but she is a fairly well adjusted tenn now.

After a quick make over where I really debating what I wanted to give Lindsey for a hairstyle, Francis helped her with her homework. That got him through the latest level of his aspiration and it’s here we reconsidered if we wanted Lindsey to be an archeologist or if we wanted her to be a scientist. Since Francis needs her to be at the top of her career (which isn’t likely to happen before he dies anyway) I decided to leave her as a planned archeologist.

Realizing I wasn’t getting anywhere with getting collections because I hadn’t done a collection round for a bit I sent Lindsey out after she finished her homework.

She then set up at a finish site to try and do some fishing for her scout badge, but I don’t know if we will reach it or not. Time will tell.

I was very happy when this night Belle came home with another promotion. This meant she needed to max out her piano skill to get another promotion, but she is now at level 9 in music and we are that much closer to radios!

Promotions and skills will have to wait though because it is now time for WinterFest. This year I won’t put anything on the tree that can’t be considered candles or non-electric. So the family gets together and decorates the tree.

After opening some presents, and putting more presents under the tree Francis gets to work on a grand fest for all of them. They enjoy sitting down together to eat the meal he made.

Each of them does their own thing, and I didn’t capture pictures of a lot of it, but Francis went for a bit of a job, and then he came back and played some chess with Lindsey.

After chess Francis decided to read for a bit and Belle grabbed a bit more to eat before hitting the piano practice hard. She really needed to get the skill points in so she can get that next promotion.

I apparently never did get any pictures of Father Winter or whatever his name is, coming by and handing out gifts, but that happened as well. It was a very successful holiday for all and everyone had a lovely time.

Once the holiday was over, however, it was back to the grind and Lindsey surprised me by getting enough badges to earn herself a “promotion” in the scouts. She may reach the top yet.

Lindsey is starting to struggle mightily with “fun.” There is not much that brings fun in the house outside of the chess table and the instruments. Lindsey doesn’t get much fun out of them, so in an effort to get her to do her homework we have her sit by the fire, which does offer some fun.

During dinner that evening we find out Lindsey is going through another phase. This child has so many phases, it’s crazy. This time she is going through a Rebellious phase. I guess we will see what that brings.

Lindsey does diligently take out some archeology books we purchased for her and reads up on how she is going to pursue this self-employed job. It’s going to take her away from home quite a bit and I’m thinking we might want her to wait to have a baby for a bit and see if we can get her started on the job first.

The garden is still around and thriving. Francis and Belle take time out of their days to fertilize, water, weed, and pick all the produce they get, and even Lindsey is starting to help out some.

Realizing I needed to get going on the mini-challenge for this generation, the busking, I take Belle down to the park on her next day off and have her sit and play for hours and hours. She got about 14 people to give her tips. I don’t have pictures of it, but she has done this a couple more times and is getting close to the goal.

Kiana comes out again, she seems to visit much more often than Johnny, and sits to talk with her daughter. Belle has certainly missed her mom from time to time, it seems they grew older so many faster then Belle thought they would. Still, it’s nice to have her around in whatever form she can.

It’s even better when Kiana decides to help with chores. This particular night it was laundry night. It’s funny how the ghosts will do laundry and almost makes it feel like there is little reason to have my sims stress over getting it done.

With this look at Kiana, I do believe it is time to say good bye once again to this family. We will be back soon, and at that point I believe we will be seeing some birthdays. I got the notice that Francis isn’t too far from his elder birthday. It doesn’t seem possible!

    Gen 2 Mini Challenge:
  • Make at least 1,000 simoleans by busking. +3 points

Last time we were with the family they were celebrating a new HarvestFest. We know have the Jungle Adventure and University packs so we might see Lindsey go for archaeology, which is what we were intending, but looking at Francis’ aspiration he wants to see Lindsey reach the top of a career. So we will see what I decide to do when Lindsey grows up.

So at the end of last update I mentioned I was debating how to handle the mixology skill for Francis. I decided, since the family has PLENTY of money that I would go ahead and buy them a bar and just rearrange the furniture and items on the lower floor so they could have room. Francis got right to work and reached his levels without too much effort.

I wanted Lindsey to be able to make it through her scout badges. It may not end up working, her squeamishness making “cleaning up” and doing some things like that hard, although I am pretty sure if I have her set the table a lot she might make it, we will see. For now, she works on her fitness.

Belle is, I believe, still looking for her next promotion. However, she might have reached level 8 at this point. She is getting so close to unlocking radios, which will be a HUGE help to Lindsey, who doesn’t find much that we have at home “fun.”

For now, however, I need her to continue to work on painting, as that is also very important to try and get done, but I’m not sure Belle will make it, we will see. With the piano around she does stay inspired much of the time.

Lindsey worked and worked on getting the final things she needed for the mental aspiration and finally did it. She got through all the potions she needed to and decided to start on the creative aspiration, though I doubt she will make it.

Poor Belle was on her way to getting her promotion when she popped home and grew up. Not sure what caused the pop home, but sadly she was going to be sad for a missed birthday. I can’t believe my little Belle is an adult now. Time flies!

To help negate some of the sadness that was going to come from “missing” Belle’s birthday (and it really was a forgotten one this time) I sent her jogging and then to paint her emotions.

Francis is getting pretty good at mixology now, and when he gets home that night to make up for missing her birthday the couple sits down with a glass of whatever Francis mixed up to celebrate. Francis is quite a bit older than Belle, but it doesn’t stop her from loving him.

That night the monster reared it’s head under Lindsey’s bed again and while she tried to make friends with it, it didn’t work for her. Luckily grandma was out haunting this night, and Kiana took care of spraying it back.

Afterwards she sat down and talking with Lindsey a little bit before Lindsey tried to go back to sleep. Those monsters came out a lot more for Lindsey then they did for Belle.

Lindsey: …and one day maybe I can even find ways to stop the monsters from scaring kids like me.

Kiana: That’s wonderful sweetheart.

In a family like this food is accompanied by music many days, and perhaps it gives Francis some additional inspiration to have his wife working diligently on her music. I believe she is working on finishing up writing a few songs.

Lindsey tries her had at the piano. She doesn’t get nearly the fun, or the sound, out of it that her mother does, but Belle losing herself in the music of her own making and doesn’t even seem to notice her daughters less than stellar playing.

Johnny comes out later that night and does something wonderful. He washes some clothes. Laundry isn’t something we keep up with as often as we used to. This family is so busy and going all hours of the day/night. So it’s wonderful that he does this. Of course he then promptly goes over and breaks the bathtub, but still.

The next day is Monday and that means school project time. Lindsey pulls her project out of her pack once she gets home and gets started on her chemistry experiment. This seems to be right up Lindsey’s ally as she loves to work with her chemical set.

With that I do believe it is about time for this chapter of the EPIC to come to a close. Lindsey is very close to growing up to teen and we are still working to see if we can complete a second aspiration, although it seems unlikely it will happen. Francis is waiting for his next promotion and Belle did finally get a promotion and is level 8 now, only 2 more to go.

With Lindsey getting the “Whiz Kid” aspiration she has to work on her metal skill as well as make some potions. I started to use the potion bench, then saw that there might be power related to it. I did ask about it and it was determined we would allow it, especially as it could be heated through flame from a candle or something.

Lindsey also spends time at the chess table downstairs. Sometimes she plays with her dad, other times she just practices by herself. Either way she is working her way up the metal skill track slowly but surely.

Belle, meanwhile, continues to work out in the garden keeping the hard work her mom put into it alive and well. She might not be as good a gardner as her mom (she is only level 7) but for Belle, being out there also helps keep her mom on her mind. Kiana even came out to hug her one night.

Even though Kiana was happy when she came out as a ghost, she quickly became sad, as Johnny typically does. I’m guessing this is due to the fact they are missing out on seeing little Lindsey grow up.

Knowing that Belle is going to need to have her music skills up higher to finish up her job she sets to completing the violin, which she does. She is even able to start writing songs now and I believe she has finished one.

I’m not sure either Belle or Francis is going to end up maxing out painting as both are only about 1/2 way through but they will keep plugging along and hoping.

Our sweet, squeamish little Lindsey decides to take out the trash, then make a mess. The problem is, as she begins to make a mess she starts getting grossed out, so then she cleans up the mess. Poor little mixed up child.

We are back to Monday, and Lindsey is needing to get an A to complete her aspiration. She has managed to max out her mental skill, fulfilling a task for both her and her father’s milestones. With both parents at work I wasn’t sure how that works with kids in this version of the game, but she was fine, and just worked on her science project outside.

By the time she is done her parents are home from work and so she goes in to talk to her dad while he makes some dinner. He is now in need of mixology levels and they do not have a bar. I will have to determine how I want to handle this going forward.

Lindsey goes to bed after scarfing down a little food as she is tired. She does do her homework, however, even though I didn’t take a picture of it and she is currently a B student. She is, however, at the point of breezing through her homework.

Belle: How as work today honey?

Francis: Fine, but I have to find a way to practice my drink mixing. They say I won’t get another promotion without it. How about you?

Belle: Fine, but I wish they would give me my promotion. I have everything they have asked for, but still won’t give it to me.

Kiana visits us again that night. This is only the second or third time she has come out and she always seems very happy to visit. Of course, she goes and breaks both bathtubs, but I’m getting used to that out of ghosts.

Belle is up the next morning feeling inspired, mostly due to the piano, but she is in a good mood, and so she paints. We have moved the easel down to be by the piano to allow for a faster painting skilling since they are typically inspired.

Francis gets the job of cleaning up after Kiana’s mess. I don’t mind when they come out, even if they break things cause they usually also help the plants, and Johnny tends to do laundry, which is very handy.

With Lindsey only needing to get an A in order to reach her aspiration, we go ahead and get her started on gaining more creativity. If we are lucky she might be able to max it as well. She only needs 3 more levels after this day, so it’s entirely possible. I believe she has about 4 days left before growing into a teen.

It is now Harvest Fest time again and after decorating the house I take out the gnomes. A couple of them are ready to be appeased again, a few of them are showing Halos and already dropping seeds all over again. This year we send each person to appease their gnomes, which they do without issue and then we throw them back into the family inventory. We’ll try again next year when I don’t mind seeds being everywhere again.

We did get a couple of new gnomes though, so that was good as well. I also, accidently, bought a new gnome, but that’s ok. Francis then gets started on the grand fest for dinner that night while Belle and Lindsey work on their own things.

Belle is about 1 day away from growing up into an adult, and it’s hard to believe where the time has gone on this generation. Lindsey is so close to reach her child aspiration and if she can get an A in high school she will fulfill much of Francis’ as well. Belle never got a promotion this time even though she did her daily tasks every day, has all the requirements, and typically left in a very good mood for work.

I am hoping she will get a promotion or two next play time because I really need her to max it out so she can get working on her aspiration. Francis is sort of stuck until I figure out what I want to do for him with mixology. He has books, but that only works so fast.

With Lindsey now a child we can get further on Francis’ aspiration as he wants to help with homework and have her max out a skill point. So before she heads off to school for the first day Francis sits down and does just that.

Belle heads across the street to see if she can get any money from busking. It’s a popular drink stand and she thinks it’s possible, but no one ends up coming by to listen.

Back inside Lindsey and Francis are doing more father/daughter things and playing some chess. Lindsey needs to play games of chess and get her mental skill up as we made her a whiz kid. That could end up changing though.

We have also noticed that Lindsey is already showing a little chub, and while that isn’t a problem to sims, she is also a scout and we want her to reach her fitness badge, so we have her go play on the monkey bars. It doesn’t always go well.

We then spy another scout and so she decides to go talk with him. He looks sad and part of her badges includes cheering people up and having school social interactions. She is able to cheer him up, but then he has to head home.

Before bed we get a bit of a jump start on the arts and crafts badge for scouts as well by drawing a picture. I believe we started with shapes. Then it is time for bed and she asks Francis to tuck her in.

Francis: Now you stay away you mean mean monsters, no scaring my little girl

*spritz spritz*

Francis, you know it’s possible she could befriend the monster

Francis: That may be, but she is squeamish and I doubt it will go well and would likely just upset her more.

Fair point Francis, spritz away.

The ghosts then come out, and Johnny is in a mood. He heads around to our toilets and bathtubs (I did end up getting a second one way out in a corner of the lot, I didn’t say anything limiting it to one each, just that it had to be outside) and breaks them all….two nights in a row.

Now it isn’t all bad, Johnny also talks with the plants, and replaces the wash water in the wash tub for our clothes. He even occasionally cleans up, but these two nights were horrible. He even knocked over the trashcan.

Francis and Belle are both good parents to Lindsey and even though we don’t see a ton of Belle interacting with her she is someone who is always there to talk to. Francis is the more day to day parent, however, due to his aspiration. Anytime Lindsey wants to play dolls, or chess, or anything else, he’s game.

Lindsey: Now let’s just take a listen Mr. Bear.

Lindsey: No no, you are doing just fine, and we will get you feeling better in no time.

When Lindsey heads off to school Belle and Francis decide to head to the park, hoping that Belle will be able to succeed at busking. I put a busking station there just in case, and sure enough, after a little bit of time the park starts filling up and people come to listen to Belle. Francis takes some time and fishes as well.

Lindsey’s next milestone was to read with an adult for a couple of hours. She had already done it for 1 hour, and after some fumbling around getting everyone on board Francis finishes up reading to her by the fire pit.

Belle, meanwhile, is working on her handiness skill by fixing the items that Johnny keeps breaking over night. We have not seen Kiana for quite a while, only Johnny.

Then it’s time for additional skilling all the way around. Johnny heads out to see if he can catch some new fish for the collection and move up that ladder, Belle works on her piano skill that she needs for work, and Lindsey handles some social building with Blarffy.

That night the monster wakes Lindsey up, and she attempts to make friends. It doesn’t work and both Francis and Belle are woken up to try and take care of it for her. We are able to get everyone back to bed without too much trouble.

I’m learning more about different auras and discovered Belle’s piano has an inspiring effect, her award is energizing, and all the little items Johnny left are focusing elements. We’ve been using the focusing elements a lot to help Lindsey with her homework and mental skills, but Lindsey also go the bug and started some art work…..as a math equation

Johnny is back and this night, minus breaking the one tub, is helpful. He replaces the water, talks to some plants, picks up the trash bin he knocked over, and clears out the trash. Lindsey is woken up, but happily this time, by the monster under her bed and is energized by making friends with it. She spends some time with her ghostly grandpa.

It’s the weekend so I don’t mind too much, but send her back to bed fairly quickly. She is also now up to a Griffon Scout and heads out for her scout meeting in a confident mood.

Belle is up to a level 7 in the musician career and has all the things she needs to progress, just needs more time. Francis is similarly waiting for his promotion to a level 5 in culinary. Belle is also about 1/2 way through maxing the painting skill, so maybe we’ll get lucky and she will max it out this generation. Lindsey is about 1/2 way through childhood, and I didn’t get a picture of it, but Francis is also now an adult. Belle has about a week left.

    Gen 2 Mini Challenge:

Last update we sadly said good bye to Johnny Tripp (Vest) and the whole family was very sad. Kiana threw herself into helping her granddaughter get as skilled as she could. Belle and Francis threw themselves into their work.

As we check in with the family we see Kiana is still working with Lindsey as much as she can. First we see her sharing some stories with Lindsey. Kiana is still the best story teller.

Story time moves upstairs to Lindsey’s bedroom where Kiana tucks her in and finishes up the stories she was telling. Lindsey is such a good little girl, although she tends to wake up angry from being hungry….somehow she seems to always wake up super hungry.

To counter the fact that food is usually put in the fridge now where Lindsey can’t get to it on her own we make sure she has fruits and veggies in her inventory so she can have a quick snack first thing in the morning.

Kiana continues to head out first thing in the morning to tend to her garden. That is where we are zoomed to while she was checking on the trees near Johnny.

Kiana has done all she can to prepare her family for the future. With her beautiful, large garden and the house she helped make possible in the background Kiana lay down near Johnny’s grave. Everyone else was asleep.

Johnny’s grave is just off screen to the left, and as grim takes Kiana to join him in the afterlife Belle rushes out and cries, followed quickly by Lindsey. She loved her grandma and is very sad to have lost both grandparents already.

This, sadly, started a complicated mixture of trying to cheer up Belle and Lindsey at different times, as well as having to coordinate time off so that someone was home with Lindsey. Every time a parent left she got super sad at being “abandoned.” It was hearbreaking. So Belle took the first day with Lindsey and sat the table letting her talk about her toys.

While Belle was out working on keeping the garden fertilized (we are shrinking it a fair amount now) I see a shape move by her. I look around and find Johnny’s ghost, angry, kicking over the trashcan. He appears to be angry about his shoes being wet.

He sits next to his son in law, who asks him about his mood, and that’s when Johnny expresses his shoes being wet. So Francis tries to cheer him up.

Even though he’s still not happy Johnny does a very nice thing for his grieving family and does the laundry for them. It’s actually very helpful as no one has had the mood to be able to do it.

Lindsey is now two days away from aging up. She is only at a 2 in thinking, and a 4 in imagination and communication. So she spends the next morning watching her dad and mom, a lot. She follows them around the house and out into the garden.

Later she watches her mom play the piano for a while, while Belle worked on her mood in the process.

Lindsey then sits down for some food with her dad where she starts asking why. After food additional watching is done, as well as more asking of why and while I watch the bar inch up she amazingly is able to get up to thinking 5. Watching is certainly a quick way to level up that skill, which I have learned by reading Teresa’s blogs. In between all this watching she also played with her dolls and finished up imagination as well.

Communication is the last skill left and from reading the blogs I remember that talking with Blarffy is the fastest way to skill this up. Since poor little Lindsey is still feeling sad and hurt about Johnny and Kiana she talks with the bear and hugs the bear and right away she’s reached level 5. That means my second ever toddler is going to be Top Notch!

The next day is Lindsey’s birthday. Francis starts out by making a strawberry cake, which seems to be a favorite of everyone in this house. Belle then grabs Lindsey and taker her to the cake. Her eyes get so wide, it’s so cute!

Now for the moment of truth. What will Lindsey look like as a child. Surrounded by the “fire” of growing up Lindsey grows up into a child with the top notch toddler trait and a 2 in all of her skills right off the bat.

She is very cute, but we do take her and get a bit of a makeover on her clothes. The hair we leave in a braid down her back. This is pre-makeover of course, and she is still adorable.

With that, this update will end. Lindsey will get started on learning all her skills and doing her homework, which will make her dad happy so he can help her. Belle is up to level 6 in her career and should be able to finish it up easily enough. She loves to play her instruments.

We are going to jump in right where we left off after last post. Francis instantly starts teaching Lindsey to walk right after she grows up. This helps boost her movement up right away.

He then brings her downstairs to get her some food and some for himself as well. After a quick bite to eat Lindsey starts playing on the slide. It’s not as fun as she would like as the slide still feels scary to poor little Lindsey who becomes sad because of it.

After playing around on the slide for a while she moves onto her dollhouse, or rather her mother’s old dollhouse. There she plays with the dolls and works on her imagination.

After playing for quite a while Lindsey is hungry and her birthday cake is available to eat. This of course puts her into a sugar rush, and she loves sugar and wants it all the time now.

Everyone was getting tired and wanted to go to bed except for Lindsey. She gets up after eating cake and wanders out to the far corner of the lot to make a mess. We decide to let her for now.

Her mom finally wrangles her and puts her to bed with a story. Belle remembers how much she loved her mom telling her stories at bedtime when she was a little girl.

While boy guys are a work later in the week the girls have a girls lunch at home once all the chores in the garden are done for the day.

Francis is always willing to read to his little girl, especially since he needs to read books to her for 2 hours to reach his milestone. He finishes that milestone this day, as well as the 10 social interactions he needed. The new goals all revolve around homework, and Lindsey in high school, so they will have to wait.

Then, the thing I was dreading happening comes to pass. We see Johnny salute into the sky and law down in his bedroom. Kiana runs in and becomes incredible sad.

The grim reaper shows up, and not knowing exactly what the Wail about Loss would do Kiana performs this action, and miraculously Johnny is back with us. I know he only has a few more days with us, but he makes the most of them. Spending time with Lindsey, Belle, and Kiana. Then he heads off to work a couple of days later and when he returns it’s his time. For real this time.

So long Johnny. He made it to level 8 in the military career and almost reached the final milestone in the collectors aspiration. We didn’t change it until he was almost all the way through adulthood so he did well with the time he had left. Everyone is very sad about losing Johnny. Lindsey goes into a tale spin, as does her mother. Both waking up sad and angry almost daily.

Kiana throws herself into spending more time with her granddaughter. Talking with her, and teaching her to say please and thank you. She teaches her to talk to help her communication skills, hugs her lovingly often and tries to help the little girl cope with such a loss.

The family continues to cope and head to work regularly. Belle has reached the ability to start down the musician track and had to buy a piano to be able to practice. It is put downstairs by the flower bench, and Belle is learning it quickly. Johnny is up to level 4 in culinary I believe now, but little Lindsey is struggling with her skills. She has maxed the potty and movement, but everything else is pretty far behind where it should be.

I know this update is a little shorter, but it feels like a good place to stop. Johnny never managed to max any skills but he was up to level 7 in multiple skills, and he loved his family. He is buried in the garden among the trees.

The family wakes the day after Winter Fest to remember that all the chores and jobs and requirements are all back for the day and head off to do the things they need to do. Belle and Kiana work the garden together.

Kiana works on getting the second toilet upgraded. They decided to put in a second one as the family is getting big enough it’s hard to keep it all going with just one set. Both are outdoors, and only “hidden” by the wooden dividers.

Belle is working her way up the musician career fairly quickly, I believe she is level 4 this point. She still loves her violin that gave her so much comfort in her younger years, and has helped her to learn emotional control. She still plays it often, typically with emotion.

She looks lovely while playing and truly seems to get lost in the music. I can relate to her, finding myself lost in music whenever I get the chance to play or sing. The baby bump is becoming more apparent and she feels like she has a bit more of a glow.

We decide to give Francis a shot at painting. We would love to get the chance to unlock walls and floors that were not just wood and stone, but he also doesn’t gain any fun. Is painting no longer fun in sims? Still, he is materialistic so new paintings adorning the walls will be nice.

Belle: Ooo my back. I’m ready for this baby to be here.

Yes, I’m sure you are. You are getting pretty far into the pregnancy at this point.

Belle: I feel like a blimp.

I know, but just hang in there, you only get the one pregnancy. There are woman out there who end up having 11 pregnancies, and like 13 kids.

Belle: Ugh, no thanks, the 1 will be just fine.

Well don’t jinx yourself, you could carry twins or triplets.

Belle: Don’t even put that thought out into the universe.

Early early in the morning on New Years Eve Francis wakes up and starts freaking out as soon as he gets up.

Francis: Oh no, oh my, she sounded in pain!

Belle: Honey, what wrong, why are you freaking ouuuuuuhhh!!

Francis: She’s dying!!!

No she’s in labor. She is going to have your baby!

Belle calmly walks downstairs and grabs some breakfast. Her husband follows her the whole time.

Belle: Honey, calm down, I’m fine, but starving. I need food. The baby isn’t coming yet.

Francis: I’m staying by your side, I don’t care.

Labor resumes and in a very short period of time for me, we get the announcement the baby is on the way. Belle delivers a new little girl. The matriarchy can continue.

Kiana: I told you it would.

Yes yes, I know you did. How do you know though?

Kiana: I just know.

Too bad there isn’t a way to make you a fortune teller.

Meet Lindsey, named after Lindsey Stirling, the violinist. I figured Belle was named for the flowers in the garden and that her mother arranged, and this generation is about music, so we’d pull a name from that. Since Belle loves violin it makes sense to pick a violinist.

Francis is instantly smitten with his new little daughter. It appears she will have blonde hair like her mom and grandfather, but you just can’t be too sure until she’s a toddler.

Grandpa and Grandma are not far behind Francis and both take turns holding, cooing at, and rocking the new baby Lindsey.

Belle is miserable, pregnancy was not kind to her, and her hot-headed trait occasionally rears its head. To avoid waking the baby she carries the violin to the “hallway” and practices there. Her dad watches her lovingly. We are now back to being in compliance with the room requirement and we will pay closer attention to that from here on out.

Everyone enjoys the new years celebration. Each makes a resolution, Belle wishes to lose the baby weight, Johnny wants to reach an aspirational milestone, Francis and Kiana want skills.

All but Johnny reach their goals within a few days of the new year, and Francis is ready to work on his next aspiration items, socialize and read to a child. So when we get the notice that it’s Lindsey’s birthday Francis goes in to help her grow up.

Lindsey is one adorable toddler. Her hair fits her perfectly and I love the little outfit she grew up in. She rolled the Charmer trait. That feels like a good spot to end this update and next we will see Lindsey in her toddler years. Generation 3 is here and growing up so fast already.

When we were last with this family Francis had just married into the Tripp clan by marrying Belle in the kitchen of their house. He had gotten a job in culinary, and Belle was working in entertainment with the idea of taking the musician route as soon as she could.

When we enter this play session the family is doing the things they needed to do for the day. Kiana is in the garden, Johnny is…fishing I think, and Belle is cleaning up the piles of clothes that seem to build up quickly in the hampers.

Francis, being in culinary and wanting to get those skills up quickly, makes some food from the fresh veggies. Then Kiana comes over to give pointers to the budding chef. She might not have been a chef, but she was a good cook.

Kiana: So it’s not a bad salad, but next time you should remove the lettuce from the hard stem at the bottom.

Francis: Oh, yeah.

Kiana: It’s ok, you can still eat it, but it will make is easier to eat and won’t be as bitter.

Francis: Got it.

When the day ends the newlyweds head up to enjoy each others company in their newly “shurnk” room. The bed rooms upstairs were huge and since we added a new person we created the nursery by shrinking the two bedrooms to make a third room in the middle.

I just realized I probably broke the room rule. Oops. I wasn’t thinking bout the hall way up where the bedrooms are as being a room, so technically we’ve had 4 rooms since moving and now have 5. I will have to keep that in mind for the future.

The next morning Belle heads downstairs for the morning and we discover that the wedding night fun has had the desired effect. Francis is a fair bit older than Belle and we didn’t want him to grow up before they had their baby. After finding out the news Belle heads upstairs to tell Francis the news.

Belle: Honey, I have news, you’ve wanted a family right?

Francis: Yes, it’s my dream!

Belle: Well, you are likely getting that dream faster than expected

Francis: *looks worried* why?

Belle: I’m pregnant!

*giggling from both* Francis blows out a breath….not sure what his concern was, but he is very happy about the news. The first milestone he needs to hit is to become a parent.

It is officially Winter Fest and the family enjoys this holiday. First decorations are put up and this year the family splurged and bought an actual tree. The family works together to make it beautiful.

Kiana and Johnny are very happy to celebrate this holiday with their newly extended family. They are not likely to see another one. Then a new tradition of singing over the packages takes place before they dig into the presents.

Everyone got good presents this year, until Johnny snuck in a “joke” gift of coal, and Kiana unfortunately opened it. For the second year in a row she feels she got bad gifts, but she also got a good gift of candles that she liked.

With a budding chef in the house, a new, well stocked, fridge and stove in the kitchen Francis gets started on a grand meal. It’s the first time this family will be able to experience this tradition for any holiday.

When the meal is prepared the family sits down and shares the bounty together. I believe the meal turns out Excellent, likely due to the excellent produce in the fridge.

After dinner Belle has been working on losing weight since her teenage years. She usually jogs, but apparently when you are pregnant there is no jogging allowed. So she uses her dad’s weight bag instead. Then she spies Father Winter walking down the street. She chases him down and after an introduction each member of the family asks for and receives a gift.

As Winter Fest wraps up for the day Belle is still hungry, as her pregnancy will start making her more and more often, and we decide to have her eat some strawberries in her bag to try and ensure a girl.

Kiana: Worry not, she will have a daughter.

I know you were right last time when it was your child, but we still have no way to truly know until the baby is born.

Kiana: You worry too much, the lineage with continue.

If you say so. I wish there was a way to know for sure…

With Winter Fest over the family settles into bed for the night excited with the festivities and the news of a new little Tripp on the way. The biggest questions will be if Johnny and Kiana will last long enough to meet and help with their grand-baby.

Kiana: Granddaughter.

Yes, yes, let’s not start this again.

If you have been following along with this EPIC challenge, welcome to generation 2! If you are brand new to this challenge then welcome, but you may consider starting back in generation 1, which was also known as the Garden of Eden generation. It starts here if you are interested in that.

Those are our rules for Belle Tripp and this new generation. While Belle grew up she gained a fair amount of traits and was decently successful (especially for my first TS4 baby). After growing up the first thing we start being on the look out for is a man for Belle.

He will need be go into painting, culinary, or gardening as Belle will be entering the music career herself. It took me a few moments to realize there wasn’t a “music” career specifically, buy rather entertainment, which funny enough was what Johnny was in when he first joined the family.

Heir must choose between Music or Painting careers.

Any young adult male we see Belle goes and talks to. This guy seems nice and he lives in a slightly different neighborhood in the same world, which means visiting him is a piece of cake.

We head to where this guy lives and he isn’t home, so instead we keep an eye out for anyone else who might be interesting. Then Belle meats this guy, Francis Gamez. They hit it off much better than Belle had with anyone else.

They spend some time cloud gazing with each other and then Belle asks him on an official date. He says yes and they head to the bar in town to share some drinks.

The date went well, but they haven’t built up quite enough to move further than this. We do see he appears to be a pizza delivery guy from his outfit though. He does not live in town, however, so we have to hope he visits again soon.

Back and home Kiana and Johnny are preparing to celebrate a special day. It will be their second ever birthday celebration with a cake. Kiana made the cake herself out of strawberries. I’m not completely sure I’m ready to watch Kiana get older, but it’s time.

Kiana: Ooof, my back is giving out.

All those years of fixing the toilet and gardening I guess are taking their toll aren’t they?

Kiana: Yeah, I’m getting older, but I have done my part for this family. They have a lovely garden, a large home and they are parepared to move into the future.

I’m not really ready to let you get old yet.

Kiana: Fiddlesticks! You can’t stop growing old, plus, my Johnny is already grey.

I know he is, but it hasn’t seemed like THAT long ago you were meeting.

Kiana: Are you serious? Honey, you watched us raise Belle from a little baby to this full grown woman!

Yes, yes, again, I know, but time works a little differently for me. It’s exciting and sad to see so many years just fly by for you.

Kiana: Well I’ve lived my happy life. I have a good husband, a beautiful daughter, even if she is a little handful, and I hope to see my grand baby. I’ve been happy here.

You can see the collection of fish growing on the wall behind the couple. They are getting quite a few fish, but it’s going to be up to future generations to probably completely finish the collection.

After a restful night for our now elderly couple, a new day dawns bright and full of promise. Belle doesn’t work until the evening so while we set the family about some daily tasks, we keep a look out for anyone in a pizza delivery shirt. Finally we spot Francis and have Belle run out to great him.

After some general flirting and talking Belle moves in for the moment of truth. A first kiss…

Everyone seems to be in a really good mood, so we decide to take our chances. I don’t want to risk this guy leaving the world and never coming back, or having a family.

He says yes, and Francis moves in. We learn he is even a better pick then we realized. Not only is he an art lover but his aspiration is in family and he wants to have a successful lineage. Now, due to his food working ways apparently we decide to have him join culinary. It will give us a way to use all the fruits and veggies that Kiana has been harvesting for years.

  • Spouse may work in any of the listed jobs the heir did not choose, or culinary or gardening.

Francis, very happy with the sudden turns in his life, heads to buy a little drink at the drink stand right across the street from the house. You might notice in the picture above there are decorations out for winter fest. It’s almost time.

Before winter fest arrives however, Kiana and Francis decide not to wait for some big party. It was good enough for Kiana and Johnny, it’s good enough for Belle. They get married right in the kitchen of the house.

I believe these two will be very fun to watch raise a child, hopefully a daughter, and work their way up the music and culinary careers. Belle has already gotten promoted up to C-Lister and practices her violin often.

She has also bought a practice one for home, and has started carrying her violin with her to allow her to perform in public. She is getting better and better and could even serenade her husband if she would like.

That feels like a good place to end this update. Next time it’s winter fest and we see if Belle and Francis get started on the next generation right away.
